125_driver
Can anyone recommend a replacement pantograph for a Hornby class 86 that won't break the bank. Just something that looks reasonable doesn't need to be strictly accurate. Any suggestions welcome!
Les Bird
Have a look at Marklin's website part no, 7247. It's not cheap but it will work. I've been using Marklin pantographs (part no. 7218) on Trix EM1's for years and they work really well. 125_driver
It's a shame Hornby didn't stick with the panto used on the older class 86 models as that was preferable. I don't suppose there's many of those knocking about now without having to buy the whole loco though.... Is there anything out there in the under 20 quid range as I'm looking to get a few...... RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted January 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2020 Which pan does your 86 have and why do you need to replace it? andi
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted January 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2020 I have been replacing quite a few Hornby 86 pantographs recently and have used Sommerfeldt and Marklin (7219) pantographs sourced from eBay for under £20. Sommerfeldt 925 Marklin 7219 they are not totally accurate but IMHO are a closer representation of the real pantographs than the Hornby offering. The Heljan rep who is a member of rmweb stated recently that along with their forthcoming Class 86s, they will have pantographs available as spares. Seeing that Heljan intend to produce varieties like the Class 86/0, Class 86/4 and Class 86/6 we'll mostly likely get spares for all 3 types, Cross-arm, Brecknell-Willis and Stone-Faively. It's worth getting in-touch with him and finding out a bit more. Also note that from 1st March 2020, Gaugemaster will be the official dealer for Heljan spares. 1
125_driver
Have picked up some 7219s from eBay at 15 odd quid each so thanks for the advice and suggestions.
