spikey
If you search Ebay for "Bachmann 31-636", the 4th item down (at the moment) is a brand new one, running number 6417. The one below that is also a brand new one, same running number, but this one's got a coppertop chimney! Apart from that and the price, the only difference seems to be that the second one's in Oz. Does that somehow account for the coppertop chimney, or is there another reason?
Paul.Uni
Was it the same picture as on https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bachmann-31-636-Class-Pannier-Emblem/dp/B00NMJZXW6 If so it was probably a promotional picture that used a livery sample of the model which had the wrong chimney. Markn
If you're after a new 64xx, then my local shop, Arcadia Models in Shaw, has both GWR Green and BR Black for £72 & £85 respectively. The ones on ebay seemed a lot more than that when I looked. I got my GWR from him a few weeks back. Edited February 16, 2020 by Markn
RMweb Gold tomparryharry Posted February 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 16, 2020 As a slight aside, may I draw your attention to the current crop of panniers currently going through E-bay. Vendors are more than happy to try to pass off earlier, Mainline -era models, described as Bachmann, which of course, they are not. Caveat Emptor! Let the buyer beware! RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted February 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 17, 2020 Absolutely Ian. A good general guide to identifying Mainline and early Bachmann 57xx panniers on 'Bay is to look at the couplings; if they are not NEM, don't buy the model unless it is very cheap and you are happy with the Mainline/Replica split chassis. Same principle can be applied to 56xx and BR Standard 4MT. Mainline and Replica never made an 8750, so these are a better bet, being by definition more recent Bachmann to current specs. Incidentally, and as a further warning to 'Bay punters, I've 'modernised' Mainline 57xx and 56xx with current Bachmann chassis. It can be done, but is a bit of a faff and you need to fabricate body screw mountings; it's not a straight fitting to the new chassis. Just to verify the copper capped chimney issue, no Collett designed pannier of any class had one, and caps were cast iron. Earlier panniers, 2721, 1854, 2021 etc, did have copper capped chimneys and later Hawkworth 94xx and 15xx did as well, but not 16xx. So a copper capped chimney on a 64xx is incorrect, even if it does look nice...
