Quick update on the plank (the diorama, not me! :D:D)

The station building will be a small shelter with a path leading up to the overbridge which will be at the camera end

Like most things I build it is held together with PVA glue and plenty of tape :O

Pay day tomorrow so I can order myself a bridge and I'll try to remember to get a paper tomorrow to use as a hillside

I love old-school scenery, I'm going to use paper strips over wire mesh on the landscape on my layout, but I'm still undecided whether to be totally old-school and use Solvite wallpaper paste or go with that new-fangled white stuff.

You have cardboard and brick paper and skill - you could build a plate girder bridge for next to nothing. I used cereal box card for the girders on mine. Save money for more loco or stock bashing.

Uralite or High Halstow halts might be as close as you'd get. They look like basic concrete boxes, but a bit pre art-deco. The Southern apparently had big plans for Allhallows in the '30s.

I might have a crack at building a brick bridge and clapboard shelter like the one down at Doleham, not far from me

https://www.kentrail.org.uk/doleham_halt.htm

I already have the materials to hand so this entire diorama hasn't cost anything extra so far. I might splash out on some hanging basket liner for the greenery surrounding the halt and maybe a couple of paint tester pots for extra ground coverage

That's nice, made from Wills sheets by any chance?

Size wise it looks about right for the probable number of passengers. Paired with a single oil lamp on a low wooden post, extinguished by the guard of the last train at night?

That's exactly what I'm going for. Just need to find an oil lamp for it

Went over to Eastbourne today to annoy Gary (bluelightning) at the shop, where he kindly took a look at the Q1 and actually got it working! (Thanks Gary!)  I also came away with a few items

Signs and lamp posts for the diorama and some liquid gravity to give the Q1 a bit more front end weight

Also picked up some wagons to put to use on Chart Sutton eventually, probably for ragstone from the local quarry
