RMweb Gold Brew Up Posted April 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 10, 2020 I'm looking to backdate my BR Hornby J15 to pre-grouping spec for use on a WW1 layout. Does anyone have a list of what needs changing? So far I've think roof needs lowering, different safety valves, stovepipe chimney, Westinghouse pump to be be removed and coal boards on tender to be removed. Any suggestions for a source of bits to make some of these changes? Thanks, Dean
LNWR18901910
The LNER-liveried version is the best one and much easy to work with. Just a simple repaint, renumbering and there you go!
RMweb Gold Brew Up Posted April 11, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2020 I already have the BR one, so that's why I was asking about back dating that. As it was discounted it seemed like the best option as the LNER version also would of needed modifying to some degree and also wasn't in stock at the time. Steamport Southport
Try the thread in the Hornby section. I think most of the differences have been discussed previously in that thread. As with a lot of RTR threads you'll have to wade through quite a bit that is no longer relevant such as delivery dates, moans about delays, etc. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80950-Hornby-announce-j15/ For parts, the best place to get them for a J15 is Alan Gibson. They do an etched brass kit (currently out of stock) but sell most of the parts separately. http://www.alangibsonworkshop.com/ Jason
