P20 vs D1/566 ballast wagons

Recommended Posts

You aren't asking about similar wagons. P20s were 10t (officially STARFISH, but no one has seen one so written) and Diag 1/566 are LING - 14t. The BR ones of each of the three designs in this family were all built in a similar way to the GWR ones, using blacksmith techniques for the bodies - the parts like stanchions had the signs of being cut with a hammer and wedge - not square cut.

Scale drawings of the BR ones are in Bartlett, Paul W. & Mann, Trevor., (1984) Non hoppered Steel Ballast Wagons. GWR designs. Model Railway Constructor vol. 51 (part 599) pp 144 - 147 & 165.

I’m referring to the BR Starfish which according to the Cambrian kit instructions was similar to the GWR diagrams P15/18/20 and was given D1/566.  These wagons were 16’6 long.  I thought  d1/567 was for the longer Lings?
