daz9284
Hi all. I have been using Care+ Surgical Spirit to remove paint from my models before respraying. However it leaves a horrible feeling on the model, even after washing with warm soapy water. (I have mainly been removing paint from Bachmann models.) Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I have seen mentioned Dettol and Isopropyl Alcohol many thanks Darryl
sulzer27jd
Isopropanol is my go to for plastic models and factory paint removal. Usually works first time and in a few hours. John

laurenceb
You should never use surgical spirit as it contains oils to counter the drying effect on your skin
RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted June 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2020 If you can find it, household ammonia works well on most paints and does not affect plastics. I always have slight misgivings using organic solvents (alcohols, brake fluid etc) on plastics having had a bad experience with a resin body soaked overnight in brake fluid. In theory it should have been fine but wasn't - and as suggested with your surgical spirit - is the solvent has some other ingredient than there can be consequences.
