Old wagon for sale

Not that unique - at one time pretty much every farm seemed to have at last one grounded van body on it - often many miles from a railway line! Numbers have inevitably decreased somewhat over the last 25 years or so, but still quite a few around if you know where to look.

Same here in the States:

Sometimes other uses are found, this somewhere in west Texas:

There were five rows. I had thought to model this scene but it would have taken way too much real estate, even just one row with fewer cars:

Anyone fancy a unique shed for their model railway.

No connection to the seller

Talk about profiteering.  BR used to sell van bodies for a tenner, plus delivery charge of course, and that chancer is asking over 800 quid for it - definitely a good way of beating inflation.

Obviously a lot depends on condition, but by my reckoning 2.4 x 5.3m is 8' x 16' or 128 sq ft.

A modern 120sq ft shed can cost £2000 so if the van is still sound, £800 for it seems not unreasonable.

I suspect the BR has very few left at that price! :yahoo_mini:

Petrol used to be less than 50p a gallon and house prices averaged £5k at one time. Times change.
