Kato 11-01 : what is available to fit?

Hi,

 

Recently asked for guidance in find a model of the Hibberd Planet 0-4-0, it seems that nothing is available so let’s try a different approach. The Kato 11-01 chassis seems to be readily available and suitable for a small 0-4-0 diesel, may I ask if there are any kits available that are designed for the chassis?

You could try looking on Narrow Planet's website. I don't know whether they have anything for that particular chassis, though — but they do have a large number of kits and 3-d prints for various chassis, including Kato.

I think you'll find that's an 11-09 chassis (the new replacement for the earlier 11-03). There is a mechanically similar one with leaf springs and end handrails too: 11-10.

It was suggested that the Kato chassis was not best suited to a well proportioned NG loco and that the Busch Feldbahn system might be a better place to start. Consequently a 12006 starter set is inbound, considering the number of items it was good value.

You could try Tebee over on Shapeways. He does various loco bodies to fit the Kato chassis, albeit many of them are freelance or stretched to fit the chassis. If you can live with that, they're pretty inexpensive.
