enginelane
Day 25. renumbered, renamed and added the detail pack for 70014 Iron Duke. All put together and then realised no crew! Hey ho. Frustrating hour spent making up cylinder drains for the 8F. Look like bent wire and little nuts which of course they are! Will have another go might be instead of putting the 3 pipes in 2 might look better on the model.
enginelane
Day 26 and too cold for the garage. Just a couple of small projects today. Used finer wire and left off the nuts on the cylinder drain cocks. Once painted will give sufficient impression that they are there. Replaced the vey small exhaust silencer on the mobile crane that will be in the Team Track area. Grease and oil added along with some light rusting. enginelane
Day 27 the chipped 8F that is used on Kiln Lane brought in from the garage. It is a more recent version with the motor in the engine as poised to tender drive. It has been modified using the Brassmaster kit with an etched footplate, cast metal sand boxes and fittings. The Brass master version on the right. The cylinder cocks on one side already broken off as cast metal. Engines will be renumbered as 48123 and 48169. enginelane
Day 28. cab doors, fall plate added to locomotive and found the bag with more Brassmaster parts to add to the other 8F. crew added to both.
enginelane
Day 29. I had already converted a tender for use with a black five. On the rear view the tender on the left has not had its steps altered and the tender coal door space has not been drilled to create the space. The right hand has brassmaster steps and coal door space cut out. On the side view the top tender is from the older Hornby Model tender with cast metal detail. The left hand tender is the Hornby China manufactured version with as supplied axleboxes and springs. The Right hand version has Brassmaster replacement spring and axleboxes. A lot of work to gain an additional depth of 2 mm on the axleboxes?
enginelane
Day 29 project is a couple of repairs from the Kiln Lane stock box spillage. 12 ton van requires new buffer beam and couplings. the other van is a Shock van from Red Panda? The van body slides on the underframe. The fall dislodged both buffer beams. Coffee and music should pass a pleasant hour fettling.
enginelane
Day 30. time spent bending up goal posts for the Sprat and Winkle couplings. Base layers of weathering added onto unpowered 8F. Transfers are coming in the post.
enginelane
Day 31 Warm enough for some garage time. Planted the remainder of the maize plants on the right hand side of the lift out section. Enough to suggest a field or at least a share cropper. Overhead crane in position in stone yard. Transfers for the 8Fs came to day in the post so will start applying them later.
enginelane
Day 32 and warm enough for outside so not as much modelling time spent. Garage time spent roughing in the scenic break on CHIRM at the chemical plant end. Aim is to create a shallow cutting through which the lines running. Small trees and bushes as vegetation. Roughed in the rest of the engine spur hard standing. Will have a fuel tanker there to refuel the Engines. Somewhere I have been a Monon engine been refuelled by Whites fuel tanker. In between tracks will be a small machine shop using the old garage from Vimes Street. Sub contracts little jobs for the Iron Works.
enginelane
Day 33. rain pouring down so no garage time. Took opportunity to renumber Kiln Lane locos as all from Royston Shed as recorded in Carlton North sidings train register for 1962.
enginelane
Day 35 of lockdown and today‘s project weathering a couple of Grampus for use on Kiln Lane. Somewhere I am sure I have seen an image of a dumper truck carrying waste through these type of wagons so aim is to weather up and add as a load. finished off the display, photo track strip. enginelane
Day 36 spent the day reading and researching into one or two things so not a lot of practical modelling. Decided to add a cement mixer travelling back from a work site in a permanent way acquired 5 plank wagon. Will have a partially used pile of sand.
enginelane
Day 37 not a lot of modelling time today as looking after grandson Issac. Weathered the cement mixer, roped down the oil drum and added sand. Missing brake b gear added. When everything had dried needs to be painted, numbered and weathered.
enginelane
Day 38. a bitter day outside so probably not the best idea to go for a walk. Modelling time curtailed again today but first layers of stone dust added and fixed in place with pigment fixer. Lettered up the 5 plank wagon and added weathering. dumper truck weathered.

enginelane
Day 40. not the best of days. Had covid jab this afternoon but that failed to lift another wise flat day. Bardun the Next modern image layout that is being built at the club will have as part of its operation trains being loaded with spot limestone loads requiring loading off a concrete pad. Picked up this atlas model dumper secondhand somewhere on what if I remember rightly were called exhibitions. Idea to create a careworn but maintained vehicle that has had a hard day dusty day working loading limestone. Base layer of dust added before moving on with some chipping.
enginelane
Day 41. looks like no reaction to the covid jab but not wise to wake up and find yourself sleeping on the jabbed arm. found a Box in a cupboard that had been gifted to me as the remnants of an estate. I thought it contained bags of paper maiche but it contained a number of kits and partially built items. Four 34 ft open hoppers, 2 40 ft open hoppers and an unbuilt 40 ft box car. Spent the modelling session fettling the 34 ft hoppers. Need to source some decals but make up a short coal cut to add to CHIRM through trains. enginelane
A visit to the decals folder and a mixture of rub down letraset and waterside from a box car produces ICG which stands for an independent company that exists only in the imagination. The Indiana Coal Group was formed when a number of smaller coal companies combined in the early 1950s. The group uses secondhand stock and accounts for the ERIE Railway Open hopper that makes up the 4 th car in this cut. enginelane
Day 43 and what a difference a day does make. Yesterday bitterly cold and today could go out with just a spring fleece instead of artic gear! Few jobs outside so modelling session brief today. Opened up the Part build of the 40 ft box car and added weights - the big steel nut weights, bogies and roof. Knocked down the shiney plastic with a thin coat of roof and carriage dirt ready to take on more weathering tomorrow.
enginelane
Counted up how many wagons will have to be changed to the bottom goal post method for the Sprat and Winkle couplings and that’s too many to change so going to have to be the Orginal method for any new stock.
enginelane
Day 44. warm enough to go into garage and retrieve the coal wagon tray from the Kiln Lane stock box. Worked way through the stock adding additional decals where missing and extra couplings. 8F with motor a non runner but tracked down to loose wire on tender draw bar coupling. Re soldered. enginelane
Day 45 revealed another haul of part builds. 2 fruit vans which I think were destined to move rhubarb on the clubs Stanley Lay-out discovery of which is apt as its Rhubarb Festival week sadly another casualty of the covid situation. Plywood van, vanwide ex LMS brake van and a Toad.
enginelane
Day 46 worked on the two fruit vans. Had to remake the height gauge jig for the Sprat and Winkle couplings as reverted back to original bar coupling method.
enginelane
Day 47 A bitty day as never really got going so added some numbers to the fruit vans, searched for replacement buffers for plywood van and made up more pairs of couplings.
