The Somerset & Dorset across the road from Burnham station is one I should have remembered earlier. At a later time it sported a 7F 2-8-0 on its sign, a late and not very appropriate addition for the end of the Somerset Central line. Dad refused to call it 'the branch'.

On the subject of inappropriate signs I came across this one recently. A couple of GWR 0-4-2Ts and an autocoach - possibly a search engine offering for a suitable pub sign for a BLT, as Uckfield is currently, but with period steam engines.

If you can shoehorn a pub in Ray, what are you going to name it?

Here's a few suggestions?

"The Engineers Arms"

"The Station Hotel"

"Firemans Rest"

Or my current favourite (Fairport Convention fans will recognise this)  the "Piston Broke"

or is that "Pissed-n-broke"

How about "Slide-bar"...

Last night we were in one of the newest station bars, Brewdog Waterloo. It's in the old Eurostar departure lounge area and is on two levels. A far cry from their first bar in Aberdeen that we visited when it first opened.

I took the slide (no drinks allowed on the slide) down to the lower level but had to use the stairs to get back up to the ice cream van. The banana split was worth it.

The beers good too even if pricey
