Correct ballast 1980s Scottish diesel depot?

What is the best/Correct ballast 1980s Scottish diesel depot? OO Gauge.

Where in Scotland is your diesel depot? There must have been a number of quarries that supplied track ballast for the Scottish Region.

From my few photos it appears that at depots like Motherwell and Polmadie the ballast of the outside sidings is a reddish colour, whereas at Haymarket it appears more grey. Of course the ballast in the fuelling area is likely to be heavily contaminated and oily. Between the sidings is more likely to be finer gravel or chippings for walking routes.

I would probably use N gauge ballast of my chosen colour in a OO depot.

Its based around Glasgow Eastfield or Grangemouth type of thing

Also who is the best producer of N gauge ballast ?

Try Geoscenics who do an n gauge brown ballast which was endorsed as being a good match for the west of Scotland in Railway Modeller several years back. I use it extensively and am very happy with it

 Thanks, i went for the Brown N gauge ballast from DCC Concepts as i couldnt find the above mentioned. Thanks
