RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted February 28, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) I recently purchased some Hobby Holidays Blacking solution as i heard it was great stuff and blackens even solder. However, i must be doing something wrong. I tested it out on some 247 Developments crew tools. I submerged 3 sets in the Hobby Holidays liquid. One set straight from the packet, the other two cleaned with a fibre glass brush. Compare this to the 2nd pic where i used Birchwood Caseys Brass Black. Is it me, or is the Hobby Holidays just no match for the Brass Black. Neither blackened solder either. Edited February 28, 2021 by ianLMS
brossard
I don't know. I have used Carr's Metal Black and gun blue which all work fine. The Casey's result looks good, seems a no brainer. Wondering if someone has tried to come up with a non toxic formulation. The good stuff is Selenium Dioxide (IIRC) and is poison. I have evolved to using a Sharpie to blacken stuff. Cheap and quick and it can be painted over. John
