RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted March 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2021 (edited) Can anyone identify this decoder? Came from a Hornby sound fitted A4 Edited July 11, 2022 by RedgateModels
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted March 14, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2021 Pretty sure it's a loksound select. This one is dead, just shorts on the programming track.
RAF96
Do you have access to the loco to see if it was a 100 ohm speaker (v3.5 ESU) or 4/8 ohm speaker (v4.0 ESU). Or even the R number to see if it was RnnnnXS Edited March 14, 2021 by RAF96

Hairy Bear Digital
It's defiantly a loksound 4 1st version. Compares exactly to my ref pics.
the1lackster
Hmm issue is now Hornby won't provide sound files to program them to a new chip it will need a new 21 pin chip or convert it to an 8-pin chip just so it can be DCC controlled.

The sound would have been from SWD, you can buy their latest sound file to load onto a blank decoder with a lokprogrammer, or buy the decoder from one of their retailers such as me (www.roads-and-rails.co.uk) Richard I think I might as well replace the entire thing really with a new speaker but not sure which speaker would fit / be the best option. Sorry I'm new to all this.

Did SWD provide Hornby with the sound files. ESU website says downloads for UK locos are not available when they are proprietary to a manufacturer .e.g. Hornby. Richard To be honest as the chip has blown looks like this is the only option to get A4 sounds back on the loco. So in the next few months when I saved for it I will buy the relevant chip with a new speaker.

RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted March 19, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2021 One thing we didn't investigate is why the decoder blew. Before fitting another expensive decoder some checks should be carried out to make sure there are no shorts etc...
