T30RRA
Hopefully this will be an all in one place long running thread for my crazy venture to gradually build a model of one of the Coronation scot trains.
T30RRA
This one is a D1960 Corridor First and formed part of the Coronation Scot. First, what's in the box. Not pictured are buffers, wheels and a few odds and ends, wire etc.
Simond
I’ll sit back & enjoy this! Whose kits? I have a love hate relationship with coach building. You need lots of them, but they’re as complex as a loco, large, fragile and fiddly, and difficult to paint well. enjoy! simon 2
Marshall5
It looks like one of Malcolm Binns' excellent 'Sidelines' kits. Like you, Simon, I don't enjoy building carriages but NPCS are O.K. - I think it must be all those hinges and door handles. I took the easy way out and got most of mine RTR from Malcolm ! Cheers, Ray.

I intend on getting a streamlined coronation loco kit from the tower collection. Thanks for now.
T30RRA
Floor pan, tumblehomes and end brackets done. I make the box next. The floor pan has a slight twist in it but once fixed to the rest of the coach, it should pull it right.
Guest WM183
Oh I am getting a nice cold drink and some snacks for this. That is a great looking kit! Watching with interest, Amanda
T30RRA
Now with the new floor in place, I have done the drop lights. Next up will be the hooded ventilators with rounded ends.
T30RRA
I've fitted the hooded vents and cut the roof to size tonight. Not sure if I'm happy with the roof overhang.
T30RRA
Finally happy with the roof overhang, got a replacement and sorted it tonight.
T30RRA
Also marked out and drilled fir the tank fillers and fitted this.
T30RRA
A bit more done tonight. Body is taking shape now.
T30RRA
Added the extra jumper cables tonight. Train alarm gear next. 5
T30RRA
Anyone done sidelines train alarm gear before? I could do with a photo as I'm not clear just from the sketch.
T30RRA
I started the bogies on this tonight. They're both in a similar state apart from one has wheels temporarily fitted. Once I've decided how many washers to put on for side play, I'll solder the bearings in and get them finished.

Soldering footsteps is a bug bear for me. I just can't get the knack of soldering such small detail. On my LNWR six wheelers I choose super glue. They seem properly stuck on. I use a thick formula that does not go off instantly. One has to hold the step for a few seconds, but the time to get it level and lined up is much appreciated. One of my six wheelers is from an NLA kit. The steps stick thru a slot etched in the end. Simple as can be, generously soldered on the inside, no mess at all on the outside. I wish the rest of my coaches were designed thus.

T30RRA
One bogie complete. One to go for this build. The wife brought be another one for the rake for Christmas too, a brake first.
T30RRA
Not bad for my first guild show. I also got a connoiseur bogie brick wagon kit. I'm still on with the coach, I've had train alarm gear castings arrive from dj parkins recently, more updates soon.
T30RRA
Bogies finished and the roof glued on. Finish the ends then it's the buffer beams and underframe.
N15class
Do the bogies come kit. They look rather nice.
Marshall5
Malcolm's carriage kits all come with bogies but wheels are extra. The bogies, which are excellent, are available separately - about 37.00 GBP. https://www.sidelinescoaches.co.uk/ Ray. 1
T30RRA
Sorry. I've only just checked the thread from last time. As Ray says, they come with them, very good but the brake shoes are a bit of a fiddle to get right. Any way... Not perfect but worth the effort I think. Just a bit more to do the other side of the valve box. The white metal bits are castings from the cavalier coaches range, available as components from dj parkins
T30RRA
Just a notice to say I have started a build thread on Western Thunderer and the O Gauge Guild Forum for the loco and the coaches will resume on there too. I don't tend to use RMweb anymore
