RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted September 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 10, 2021 Hi again, I have found plenty of images of these PCAs, mostly taken during the 90s; what I cannot find is a note of when the livery was introduced. These links should show what I am referring to. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/tunnelcastlepca/h27CF819D#h27cf819d https://www.osbornsmodels.com/373-007c-farish-pca-castle-cement-5891-p.asp (Yes, this one is of a Farish model.) Many thanks for any information, or pointers to other sources. Regards, Alex.
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted September 10, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 10, 2021 Hi Alex, I seem to remember that Castle Cement only became such in the 1980's - possibly 1986, when the previously separate parts of the company came together and were rebranded as Castle Cement. BernardTPM
The castle symbol was used on Ribble Cement wagons in the late 1970s.

Hi Bernard, Yes, you are correct - the Castle symbol was first used in the late 70's *1977/78 rings a bell, but only after Ribble Cement became part of a marketing group arrangement with some other cement works. The Ribble Cement livery carried on for a few more years before getting the full Castle Cement livery. I have notes (somewhere) from several visits to Clitheroe which include the numbers of the first wagons in the Castle Cement livery. BernardTPM
Just checked the date I photographed it: 13th August 1978, at York. It was pretty fresh then. Additional: I photographed two different wagons in two different liveries, both liveries shown here (1st line 3rd photo, 2nd line middle photo). Ianrally
For those who may be modeling in the late 50's to late 60's, the livery of the Ribble Cement Presflo wagons was just like the road tankers pictured in the links. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ribble+cement+lorries&sxsrf=APq-WBvOBGy-dpaGvElfoSUkZTuRdmR5ug:1645545563003&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiO0fn11pP2AhXMPsAKHZWZD2Y https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Flive.staticflickr.com%2F4380%2F37129579830_dbe6afa377_b.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fedward_beck%2F37129579830&tbnid=rVq7XmVUieH7sM&vet=12ahUKEwjW4Nun2JP2AhUGR8AKHTWiAKYQMygFegQIARB2..i&docid=BST57BqxNRTSbM&w=967&h=598&itg=1&q=gilbraith tankers accrington&ved=2ahUKEwjW4Nun2JP2AhUGR8AKHTWiAKYQMygFegQIARB2 I can't remember if the roundel was the smaller or larger of the two shown when used on the rail wagons, I was only 10 years old at the time. The castle depicted on the roundel was to represent Clitheroe Castle.
