A very sad loss to British comedy and entertainment...

We were doing a band job a few years ago and John had a stand there promoting his latest book.

A polite request to him and he was only too happy to 'conduct' the band in full "Boycie" mode. A lovely chap to spend time with.

Another huge loss to the world of television comedy and a genuinely nice guy, a fantastic character actor whose wide and varied achievements will always be in the shadow of "Boycie", but maybe none the worse for that.

Casting my mind back a generation, I recall seeing the surviving cast of "Dad's Army" gradually dwindling at a time when "Fools" was still at a fledgling stage. Here we are now facing the same scenario with a cast that's achieved even greater heights than even those the Walmington Home Guard managed.
