I quite agree - my Aoyue is even older and still works fine.  My comment was meant to be ironic in that the OP initially suggested that the Chinese route is "rubbish" but then quite wisely has decided to buy a cheap Chinese unit!  I was among those who suggested he should.

In fact trawling my bookmarks for 4mm 1:76 building suppliers I happened on a link to that very iron! I’d researched it before but totally forgotten.

Yet to try it in anger though.

I’ll report back when I’ve had a go with it.
