patrickdillan
The OO scale South Waterford Line represents a fictional line built between Dungarvan and Youghal which would have resulted in a more direct route between Cork and Waterford than the Mallow Waterford line which was closed in 1967. In addition to passenger and mixed goods trains the line also sees Bell liner trains and block fertilizer trains. Beet specials are also seen during the beet harvest. The construction of the layout has been documented on the Irish Railway Modelers site however after lurking on this site for years I feel its time to contribute something. The video done by my son Kieran shows the progress of a beet special in October 1974. http:// https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CUMmP-HTULw&t=52s

patrickdillan
The "finished" refers to the video clip which was edited by my son. There is still much which could be done but all progress has stopped as a move may be coming in he near future.
StephenB
Although the South Waterford Line is fictional, it is very much a could have been. The first proposals for a railway between Cork and Waterford envisaged a line through Youghal, Dungarvan and Tramore. Only the lines from Cork to Youghal and Waterford to Tramore were actually built, the through line being further north from Mallow to Fermoy, Lismore, Dungarvan and Waterford. The Act of Parliament to build the line from Waterford to Rosslare allowed for a short cut from Fermoy to Cork. If that had, instead, been from Dungarvan to Youghal, then you have the South Waterford Line. Stephen
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted December 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 4, 2021 A house move will see closure notices posted, but perhaps a new development in the future. looking over your shoulder with the build and operating has been very enjoyable, instructive and great fun! If you do get to move hopefully as much space can be devoted to the SW line. Thanks for showing.
StephenB
In your last post you mentioned a house move forcing closure of the South Waterford line but no timescale. Is this still happening, please? I’ve found your layout one of the most inspirational, not least because of its simplicity. Stephen 2
