Hello all,

In doing some maintenance/ detailing work to a friends ancient kit built loco, it has become apparent that one of the carbon brushs for the motor has at some point broken. We have no idea of the origin of the motor or how to go about sourcing a replacement brush. Any advise / recommendations / identification would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

Anchorage ds10, I think

From what I know the DS10 is quite different from the D11 & D13

This is still quite a common motor and supplies are seemingly still available

It's a D11 motor, you may be able to use a short length of pencil lead as a brush, very unlikely you'll be able to source any spare parts, the motor is probably near 40 years old

There are 2 other Mashima/Anchorage motors, the D11 and D13. Mostly sold under the Anchorage brand but I have seen some labelled as Mashima

They can be quite good providing the correct ratio is chosen and they are meshed correctly

The D11 (smaller than the D13)

The larger D13

Both together

If anyone thinks I have muddled things please correct any errors

I have used a piece of pencil lead in an old K's motor to prove that it worked but I don't know how long it would last in service.  It was from the compasses of an old drawing set.

A friend has used a Graham Farish brush in an old motor and these are available from B R Lines.  Go to the bottom of the page on this link.

If you contact them they might be able to give you some dimensions.
