My intended strategy is to use polystyrene and card to create a number of support pillars from start to end (possibly 100mm apart). Then use card to create an initial road bed. Then starting at the pillars use modrock to create the sides and a solid road bed. One area of concern is the tops of the pillars since those will be horizontal but I think if the pillars are small enough (40mm by 10mm) the give of my foam underlay will allow the 1% incline to be maintained.
