LSWR 30FT BRAKE VAN

Recommended Posts

Bill, I've put a message on your website, but I forgot to include the item number.

A quick explanation.  The LSWR strengthened some of their 6 wheel PBVs to take bullion traffic.  Nothing too obvious, extra locks and a "return to Nine Elms or Southampton".  There were replaced by the bogie Bullion Vans in 1912.

I'm part of the Southwark Bridge team, and we operate a Bullion Van on Southampton trains that is shunted into our bullion dock.  There is however a second potential traffic, which is Portal's security paper from Overton to the Bank of England.  Our perception this would require secure transport (with a Portal employee in attendance) so a 6 wheel van would travel from Southampton to Overton, to be loaded and attached to the up Parly to Southwark Bridge.  After unloading in the dock, it would be loaded with bullion or other security items for transport to Southampton.  All our existing PBVs are assigned so an additional one is required, and why not a caboose?

I have an extra interest because my usual duty is to shunt the yard.
