Dave777
No idea if this has been posted before or not, but I found this today: http://prints.leics....796079&gid=7469 To quote: 'A selection from S.W.A. Newton's unique photographic record of the Great Central Railway's construction, around the turn of the last century, featuring the infrastructure, locomotives, machinery and navvies involved' Photo quality online isn't great, but some useful shots, particularly of bridges. David Bigcheeseplant
I ordered some many years ago and they were printed off the large glass negitives the quality was fantasitc, I think now they send you prints scanned from prints they have in an album of photo and I hear the quality is not so good. Also there are quite a few negitives they hold that have not been printed up, I managed to find the refrence numbers of a few of these and got copies but this was twenty years ago and still they have not got these listed. buffalo
If you are impressed by S.W.A. Newton's photos (who wouldn't be?) then you may also like L.T.C. Rolt's 'The Making of a Railway'. It is a wonderful book bringing together a large number of these photos into thematic sections with captions and small amount of additional text.
