RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 Hi Guys, staying at Market Bosworth station this weekend in the motorhome for the Rails & Ales event along our friends. We arrived last night. There are a lot of traction engines present. Spent the evening in the goods shed from 8pm until late being entertained by the our old friend Dr Busker. He is on again tonight. Off now to get the 12.00 train. Cheers, Ade.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 Walking down the line of the traction engines on the way to the train. I do like the restored LMS cart. I always like the steam wagons. We met Dr Busker resplendent in his top hat.

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 The station. The station booking office is on the other side of the tracks but is now a garage.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 I have been looking forward to seeing the Caladonian loco.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 We got off at Shenton station and despite being fairly local, we had never visited Bosworth Battlefield so we decided to take a leisurely walk to the field. As you may know modern research has since discovered the actual battlefield lies a mile or so away from where originally thought.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 Back to Shenton Station now to travel down to Shackerstone. The small building is original but the main station building was bought for £1 and moved from Leicester and rebuilt brick by brick. It now houses a glass blowing studio plus cafe.

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 We stayed at the station to catch the 4pm train which allowed me to get a lot of photos of 419.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 More detailed pics of 419. Had a good chat to the driver/owner. He said every item of brass on the loco is a replacement. The firebox he built himself. He said the engine is fairly economical to run, but in an ideal world she would like to run at about 50mph. I thought some of the pics might be useful to show a clean engine which still shows signs of use and light dirt. Hopefully useful for any weathering project,
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 23, 2022 Back to the real ale festival now in the goods shed to catch the Barvarian Um-pah band.

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted July 24, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 24, 2022 The Battlefield Line is our local preserved railway. Always depresses me these days to how run down many of the facilities are and the long lines of stored stock slowly rotting away. On each of my recent visits I've also been witness to strong verbal disagreements between what seem to be factions. I always thought I'd do a bit of volunteering there in my old age but it does appear that lots of 'those that quietly do' have left, leaving too many moaners and fault pointers. Not my favourite environment. Despite this we still occasionally go, particularly to the tea shop at Shakerstone station, and a group of us went to the Real Ale festival on Friday. Really enjoyed the evening. Entertainment was provided by a bunch of pirates... 4
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted July 24, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2022 Last few pics. We walked into Market Bosworth to get fish and chips for tea. A few of the traction engines had gone on a road run to do the same. Cheers, Ade.
