Rather stylish!

In the 1950s and into the 1960s many FALLER buildings were available factory- assembled, with the alternative of kits which were designated with a 'B' before the catalogue number, indicating 'Bausatz.' This was particularly the case with buildings made with a combination of card and plastic ('gemischtbauweise'). I remember assembling one of these, a handsome station with card walls that had to have a rendering made from the white glue and a sand-like texture material that was supplied.. The plastic doors and windows, the latter with shutters moulded on, were inserted from the front. The effect would seem toy-like now, but it was a pleasing survival from the firm's origins in the austerity of the immediate post-war era, when the brothers Faller set up their firm in the  Black Forest with products made from wood and paper.

Happy memories!
