Birds Folly - The Southwold Railway

As if I haven’t got enough on my plate, I’m introducing a new layout that I have taken ownership of.

This is Birds Folly, built by Stewart Green. Birds Folly is the name given to the real location of a siding and Engine Shed built in the early part of the century by the Southwold Railway. This is its representation in 009.
The shed consisted of a wooden frame with asbestos cladding on a concrete base.
Today, the concrete base survives with its inspection pit and the remains of a well that provided a water supply for the engines.

In the autumn of 2015 the Southwold Railway Society undertook work to clear the site and make the remains more visible and further restoration is still ongoing.

The route of the track between the engine Shed and the Bridge is now a public footpath.
