517 class entering Malmesbury shed

My first blush at this model as there's still a bit of titivation and weathering to be done. Note that the fire devil is slung from the jib as it slews under the water tank and above the coal stage.

Hi Duncan,

 

The original architectural drawings were available for purchase online, but the building was never constructed to them as they were based on broad gauge, the walls, roof and length of the actual finished building were modified. So I based on physical dimensions and photographs.

 

I had the building constructed of laser cut 6mm and 3mm mdf which I produced on CAD and clad it inside and out with moulded stonework sheets and features that I modelled and 3D printed.

This looks absolutely superb. I did not realise the dimensions of the shed differed to drawings. Thanks for that.

Which make of stone sheets did you use? The look a good match to the shed in reality.

Hello Ade, You can also take measurements of the roof from Google Earth which is reasonbly accurate.

 

I used Wills SSMP200, which although intended for 00, the courses are much more realistic in 0. The ends match quite well, and with a bit of filling and tweaking will improve the finish.

I should have said, the building is actually built 55’ and not 60’ long. The roof never adopted the clerestory venting and instead used the internal chute with chimneys, which is more obvious from the photos.
