Now about to make the third pass of the platforms crossing from the down fast to up slow.. I think it's the first time I've seen such a photo of barriers protecting a barrow crossing, I know about the block repeaters protecting some crossings and of course I remember the later white light protection. The box diagram shows it as worked by the first two levers in the small frame (not numbered). So being in a separate frame, presumably not interlocked, free like wicket gates? And there was one lever for each barrier, painted brown? And the Luton Line frame was really 19 levers, not 17 as tallied on that diagram? I assume the porters had to ring the box when they needed to cross.
RMweb Premium MRE2 Posted February 10, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2023 This picture posted by simon b reminded me that as train crew we would go into the shed shown above the signal box, that was the repository for waste paper etc. It was usual to collect as many 'gentlemens entertainment' magazines and distribute them among various messrooms, cabins, bunks, etc for the amusement of the troops. 1
