RMweb Premium rab Posted January 20, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 20, 2023 As discussed elsewhere I've given up on Peco N gauge track (too small and fiddly for me) and changed to Kato Unitrack. Having got to the point of being able to run some trains, I'm realising I need a means of uncoupling stock. My question is, does the Unitrack uncoupler work with the 'standard' N couplings? drt7uk
No, sadly. It only works with knuckle couplers (which must have a little curled bit of metal attached (sorry don't know there proper name). I have Kato unitrack and use it for my Shinkansen but have a few older ear trains with standard N couplings. What I did instead is fit a tiny high powered magnet on my couplings, so they flick up when they go over the Unitrack uncoupler. Works well actually. I'll try and find a link to he magnets I got
drt7uk
Here are the magnets I got. https://www.guysmagnets.com//neodymium-magnets-c11/guys-magnets-3-mm-x-1-mm-x-1-mm-neodymium-ring-p91/s96 They fit perfectly around the little pin of plastic underneath the coupler
drt7uk
Some photos from my layout. The Kato uncoupler works fine but you can also just stick a few of the magnets to the track itself using a dab of superglue. Any questions let me know!
