If you are planning to join baseboards together (at the LH / RH ends), then 'B' is preferred as you stand a better chance of getting the two ends aligned properly for joining. That's what I did on my layout. Ian

Personally I'd go with 'A' - then the cross battens are all the same size and when drilling holes you're working on the two sides only
RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted January 27, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2023 B is the better option. I would add some blocks to the corners. Option A allows the ends to ‘twist’ between the side supports. 1
Peter Kazmierczak
2:1 in favour of "B" then. I think "A" looks slightly neater from the side, but I appreciate that "B" makes alignment easier. Just about to get out the "Workmate"...

I would just add that, in my case, the outside 4 battens were timber whereas the 'stiffeners' were simple plywood (offcuts from the baseboards!) to keep the cost down. Peter Kazmierczak
Thanks guys. I eventually opted for "B". Baseboards now completed. I'll put pictures in my "Shardlow" thread in the layout topics section in due course. Edited January 28, 2023 by Peter Kazmierczak
