rekoboy
Here is a little something to brighten up your day. Increasingly rarely, sadly, regular traffic on the route between Eisenach and Meiningen is handed over to steam locos. Here you can see two old ladies making light of a 2000 tonne potash train from the mines on the border of Hessen and Thüringen. Enjoy! 2000 Tonnen und mehr -- und das mit Dampfloks: https://youtu.be/KjRH23LMusY Edited February 15, 2023 by rekoboy Punctuation 4
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted February 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 15, 2023 Excellent. Thanks for sharing. I’ve only been to one plandampf which was disappointing due to torrential rain which made photographing from the lineside impossible, so eveyone rode on the trains making them overcrowded.
rekoboy
And here is Plandampf Teil 2 with 3 locos on a potash train between Bad Salzungen and Eisenach. Top stuff, particularly the Prussian BR 58 - she was 100 years old last year. Those with sharp eyes will note the young fireman on the BR 58 - Meiningen loco works (Dampflokwerk Meiningen) still trains and passes out steam footplate crew. Hartmut Mehdorn, a hard-nosed boss if there ever was one, who led the Deutsche Bahn for quite a while, when asked why the Deutsche Bahn AG, in spite of cost-saving, still had a full-blown steam locomotive works in Meiningen, grinned at his questioner and said: 'We run a railway. That's what proper railways do' 5
