eBay N gauge Flying Scotsman sharp practice

I suspect most RMWebbers wouldn’t fall for this, but just a heads up about this seller and this listing

The “pre-order” N gauge Flying Scotsman he is offering for £29.99 is just the old static plastic Del Prado model with fixed wheels and moulded-on motion - worth about £2.99 at most!  He *does* mention that it’s static in the description but cleverly omits that fact in his word salad of a listing title, thus skating very close to the line without actually going over it.  He also claims the model is “die cast”, implying it’s metal without actually saying so.

From his feedback it is clear that several buyers have been disappointed to receive a static model but have no comeback because of this. Several others have obviously realised just in time and cancelled the sale, a few feedbacks are suspiciously gushing, and as for the rest - well, there’s no accounting for folk…

If you want to pay nearly £30 for a Del Prado paperweight, that’s fine.  But go into it with your eyes open.

The idea of "Flying Scotsman" as a candidate for a scrap siding is very entertaining....  The listing itself is par for the ebay madness course, there are many unlikely GBL/Del Prado/Atlas scrapweathered locos on offer, often at a higher price.  The recent ineffable scrap HST was a prime example!

With ebay its always a case of caveat emptor, and those likely to be gulled by dodgy advertising are not likely to be RMwebbers. Ebay themselves couldn't give a toss, so long as their fees keep rolling in.
