RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted March 13, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2023 Back in 1999/2000 EWS ran a refurbishment programme on the china clay wagon fleet, moving the CDAs a couple at a time to a purpose built shed on the site of the old Ponts Mill clay works. There are some photos (from 2000) here: http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/pontsmill-branch.html The earliest photo I have seen so far is of 375103 in June 99 showing its newly painted EWS red frame, clean underframe (but the body still quite dirty). From memory the work included cleaning the insides of the wagon, but what I am unclear of is what work was done to the hoods. Were they replaced with the new EWS red hoods at the same time? Unfortunately all of the 1999 photos I have managed to find so far are from low angles and you cant see the hood. I am hoping that someone may have more recollection as to what work was covered, and i critically if the roofs were left untouched as the heavily weathered ECC hoods or if they were replaced in EWS red
