Canal Street (Edinburgh) diorama - 2mm in the mid 19th century

Recommended Posts

A classic boxfile layout, albeit a static diorama, this time on 2mm scale, and again with printed components. Canal Street was the original city terminal for the rope-worked incline up from Scotland Street.

A trial on this project was to model in monochrome - all but the etched brake wheels on the brake wagons. The arrangement is shortened from the prototype but not by much - it was a very compact layout. This one actually runs, just about, with 1970s Farish running gear for the rolling stock and thread on a winder for the incline. The sidings were man and horse worked through the turntables, so not much chance of making that run at 1:148.

I have more photographs of this if anybody is interested.
