Dunalastair
Many of the 19th century forts on the south coast used tramways, generally 18" gauge and horse powered. Hurst Castle on the Solent is managed as a monument / tourist attraction, and the tramway there (originally donkey-powered) is still mostly extant. https://www.flickr.com/photos/21000745@N02/4910247471/in/dateposted/ https://www.tripadvisor.com.my/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g1096801-d215550-i181375718-Hurst_Castle-Milford_on_Sea_Lymington_New_Forest_National_Park_Hampshire.html This system and its modelling potential has been discussed here on RMWEB before https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/155041-narrow-gauge-at-hurst-castle-hampshire/ My latest diorama represents the West gateway and part of the casemate range. Fitting onto an A4 frame, it uses 3D printed parts at 1:76 scale. This has to be one of the the chunkiest dioramas to come off my printer. The fort has had problems with coastal erosion in recent years - despite remedial work it may not always be there. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/hurst-castle/protecting-hurst-castle/ Edited July 1, 2023 by Dunalastair 11 1
Jules
Nice. Used to be a regular walk of mine out to Hurst when I lived it Christchurch. Haven't been back for 10 years or so the collapsed wall is a bit of a shock!
DGO
I live just half a dozen miles from Hurst Castle, the wall collapse was I'm afraid English Heritage ignoring repeated warnings that the wall at that end of the castle had been undermined by wave action and doing nothing to protect it, they were apparently too busy working on the other wing of the castle to even check it out, a lot of locals are very angry about this... The little diorama looks pretty good to me though obviously the stone wall needs work David
