Morning all.

Can anyone point me in the general direction of a source of images of 1950s, 1960s Italian steam locos and Italian railways in general.

My interest is mainly in small locos, goods working and industrial lines in general.

I've had a look but have so far struggled to find much and any pointers would be appreciated.

One possibility is any book or article by someone called P Kalla Bishop.

Online, Facebook is probably the best source, but there's so many groups that it's difficult to keep track. Flickr is another place in to look.

Three more good links.

For printed media, you can't go wrong with Duegi Editrice.

Morning all,

Thanks for the suggestions. I've since found  a few images which fit the bill.

I shall continue to do the research. It's a long term side project in any event to produce a very basic, though readily identified as Italian, Cameo layout for a couple of small 0.6.0Ts to run about on.

This is a good book and is still available from the publishers, but postage can be excessive. Tecnomodel in Livorno appear to be able to post it for €12 though, so not too bad.

These two are superb, but have been sold out for a while so pretty difficult to track down sadly.

I haven’t seen this one, so can’t make any recommendations, but it seems to fit the bill:

I've got that one in the shed somewhere. Pretty good from what I remember. I'll dig it out next week and have a flick through.

Watch Von Ryan's Express (1965)?  Not just because it's a ripping yarn or because Frank Sinatra stars: it's a train enthusiast's dream.

From Wikipedia:

"The Ferrovie dello Stato/Italian State Railway closely cooperated on the production, as reflected in the film's closing acknowledgment credit, providing a complete train headed by the specially-bulled up FS Class 735.236. The train which the Nazis commandeer to pursue the escaping POWs is headed by a Franco-Crosti boiler-fitted Class 743."

The Crosti-boilered SS train seems to run really well, unlike a Crosti 9F.
