This is a wonderful special edition from KMRC representing a St. Blazey stores 13T High Sided Open Wagon.

https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/57859/38-328Z-Bachmann-High-Sided-Steel-Wagon-number-ADE282721

Touchingly it has a small certificate commemorating  Bachmann's Merl Evans involvement in the project.

It is a well finished model and has recently been reduced to £9.99.

For those who model the Cornish China Clay scene in the 70's/80's it offers something different.

Alternatively a quick repaint as in my instance to a standard stock wagon offers a nice project at a good price.

I will order transfers from John Isherwood at Cambridge Custom Transfers.

Thanks,

Mark

This is the prototype https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/lneropenmerchandisesteel/e2b3ce6e1   https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/lneropenmerchandisesteel/e37bdb527

Photographed at both ends of its workings - St. Blazey and Swindon works only about 3 weeks apart.

Bachmann did a very good job of reproducing the finish on this.

I used to visit St Blazey in diesel-hydraulics days so picked up one of these from KMRC's trade stand at a show in Swindon, oddly enough........well, not that odd, I was living there at the time!.........not knowing that I'd end up moving to within walking distance of St Blazey depot on retirement. When I got it home I was a little disappointed the discover the certificate was missing, but never mind.

This then prompted a search for the matching BR vent van with middle off-white stripe, Bachmann 38-160Y and also a KMRC limited edition (one of a pair, the other being 38-160X sans stripe), and found one only recently on the 'Bay. Being an older model the weathering on this is just the sprayed-on dirt type so not a patch on the steel open (if you'll excuse the pun), I agree with @hmrspaul the finish on this is really quite impressive.......in a grotty kind of way 😁!

Bachmann and Kernow certainly did a brilliant job reproducing the finish on this model to represent the prototype.

Thanks for posting the links to your images Paul.

Out of interest do you know what type of spares it would have carried?

Cheers,

Only guessing but St. Blazey was a distant (from Swindon) MPD so I would guess any bits that could be used for local maintenance, but wouldn't spoil by being in the open - such as brake fittings.

Might it also have carried smaller, crated, components maybe?

Mike.
