ESU Decoder tester - which one is Pin 1 ? ( Solved thanks Nigel )

I have some old decoders I want to test and one is a 6 pin type - I know where Pin 1 is on the decoder but the ESU tester is not marked to show me where pin 1 is on the socket on the board ???

It is marked, but it's subtle....

 

"Yellow" refers to pin 6.    And the "*" appears to be pointing to pin 1, even though its also on the 8-pin socket.

I did wonder about the yellow being the other end to pin 1 - but i thought it might be cheaper to ask first :-)

You can't harm a 6-pin by putting it in backwards.   Just things don't work as expected - some of the lights may come on if you asked for a motor speed, nothing else.

Pin 1's also closest to the "1" in NEM651.

This and Nigel's * method apply to the older pre-Next18 version of the ESU decoder tester.
