RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted September 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 25, 2023 I picked this up from Hattons scrap pile second hand offerings a couple of weeks back: It is a very old Mantua 0-4-0ST which at some point, somebody converted quite neatly to 0-4-2ST. It's a runner too but had been bodged with UK tension lock couplings on the ends, now thankfully removed: What I need is advice on how to fit some Kadee coupling to it, the standard draught box won't fit in the small space available. Any advice please?
RMweb Premium Rich_F Posted September 25, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 25, 2023 Would a NEM pocket fit under the loco? You could superglue some in then buy NEM-compatible kadee couplers. 2
davknigh
Conversion advice can be found on the Kadee website. I suspect the 2-56 screws used to mount the old couplers would serve if only for mounting holes. https://www.kadee.com/hocc_mantua Cheers, David
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted September 25, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 25, 2023 (edited) Thanks for the replies, I will try and get hold of a Kadee #37. I am sure someone in the UK will have them. Edited September 25, 2023 by John M Upton
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted September 26, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2023 The old Kadee K-4 might be suitable. (Modern #4) It may have been designed for the original Mantua coupler which was an inside-out tension lock; the small hook was right at the inside and the loop slid over the other loop. I have two in my collection.
