RMweb Gold papagolfjuliet Posted October 24, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) I bought this layout a few months ago and have finally begun tidying it up. It appears to have had three previous owners - the original and very talented owner who scratch built practically everything but didn't quite finish it, a second owner who made a mess of the end backscenes but did little else, and the chap from whom I bought it whose daughter gave it to him as a birthday present but who never did anything with it. Unfortunately I couldn't fit the thing in my car and it was damaged in transit by a Shiply driver, with some buildings and bits of scenery lost, and I am now working on sorting these out using suitably modifed proprietary items. Originally end to end it will be rebuilt with a continuous circuit and the two fiddle yards repurposed as micro-layouts. Dealing with that horrible blue slap at each end is of course a priority. The scenery is strongly reminiscent of Paul Windle's work. Does anybody recognised it? Edited October 24, 2023 by papagolfjuliet
RMweb Premium Moxy Posted October 24, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2023 It is Paul Windle's work, it was built as 'Rothby,' although with far fewer buildings on it. It was railway of the month in April 1998 Railway Modeller.

stan williams
Paul Windle is a regular visitor to our gatherings at Corpus Christi Hall, Alfred Street, Rainford, Merseyside WA11 8BY and I certain he could help you regarding the layout. We have a number of NG modellers who travel over from North Wales on a regular basis. Stan.
Rich Uncle Skeleton
What a blast from the past. One of my favourite 009 layouts.
stan williams
Rothby was originally sold on to a guy in the North East, who had it for 5 or 6 years before passing it on. The row of houses and some of the other buildings where not on the original layout. I had the other station Rothampton (that was unfinished) and that was rewired, scenics finished and went on to the exhibition circuit. It is now looked after by the Rainhill MRC. Stan.

So presumably it was the third owner who added the buildings and repainted parts of the backscene, and I am at least the fifth owner?
