Now for the next goodie. Some of my A1s are a bit bland, and thus need Timara's attention. The next one was Kittiwake. This was a Copley Hill engine, another shed not renowned for the cleanliness of its charges. In summer 58 it was 15 months past its last overhaul. We couldn't find any reliably dated photos for my period, surprising considering how common these locos were, so we settled on this.

 

Not totally filthy, but certainly not gleaming either. It certainly isn't bland any more.

A Spital Bridge 4F brings in the last train to Leicester for today.

Behind with shopping again, so only one action photo, but it does have three locos in view.

The last goodie is another Copley Hill A1, Aboyeur this time. All previous comments apply, and this one too was approaching its next general overhaul. It is not surprising therefore that their condition is similar. This is Timara though,so of course there are subtle differences.

and then enjoys a five minute rest.

 

and it seems someone has been giving you duff information. This is, in fact, the 5.05 Up Newcastle, and in the morning we shall see what is behind the tender.

You just can't believe what you read any more. Not only was this train not the Hull, it wasn't the Newcastle either. It is in fact, absolutely definitely, and beyond doubt, the 1145am Dundee-KX, now eight hours and forty minutes into its long journey. At least there are catering cars.

B1 with the first New Clee-KX fish passes the 02, still waiting.

and a little further along it passes the Ivatt, also waiting.

The fish has gone, though the memory lingers on. The coal behind this 9F won't notice though.

92034 then rumbles past the Ivatt, which is just moving away.

The Peterborough portion of the 5.52 off KX arrives. The other portion was detached at Hitchin for Cambridge. 61282 seems to be the regular choice for this duty.

and from the north we have the 5.05 Up Newcastle, and it definitely is this time.

Couldn't get the number yesterday evening? Well, here's a better view. Its only Sandwich again though.

 

and on she goes. Those spotters should be at home by now, surely? What are they going to say when they get back?  "I couldn't come home earlier, 'cos I was glued down". A likely story.

More of 60500, this time from Spital Bridge. The photographer has brought his step ladder, in order to see over parts of the parapet which would otherwise be too high.

 

 

 

 

This shows the bridge with no end, which I normally crop out. I thought I'd just try it, but it is probably not a good idea.

Here's the last Spital Bridge shot. Back to what I normally do, and I reckon it is the best option, but please tell me if you disagree.

Coming to the end of the sequence soon. I seem to have forgotten to note how long it took for months back, but I think we have now had two successive weekdays. So what next?  A Saturday, or shall we stick with weekday again? Your views will be carefully considered.

Given that the FO sleeper is running through at the moment, then surely the next day will be Saturday?

 

My Dad does a similar thing to you - runs a 24 hour timetable. His approach to the same conundrum is to run Mon-Weds-Fri-Sat (and repeat ad nauseam). Mondays and Fridays had some variations (eg as above) whereas Tues-Thurs were more the same. So running the 4 days of the week he does makes it interesting in that no four of those days are exactly the same. Saturday is of course the biggest variation.

I run summer Fridays and Saturdays only, which were the most interesting from a traffic point of view.
