RMweb Gold simon b Posted February 19 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 19 Hi all. I'm doing some research on early freightliner trains and have come across something I'm a little puzzled by. On Paul Bartlett's excellent website are some pictures of what appears to be a 60ft flatbed body mounted onto a freightliner wagon, link here: https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brferryfreightliner Some of the other wagons also have the same body whilst others dont, so I assume that this could be removed from the wagon using the twistlocks? Was this type of body used in normal freightliner trains or just the international wagons? Must have been a flimsy thing when not fitted to a wagon? hmrspaul
I have given the numbers of the J container flats on https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brferryfreightliner/e365ee9d2 Simply a conventional 27ft freightliner container. If you look at Roger Silsburys's chapter in your copy of Michael Collins Life and times series Freightliner you will see there were a couple of hundred of these. Apparently later converted to C containers https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brfreightlinercontainer/e39d1570e https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brfreightlinercontainer/e2942c7c0 Paul Edited February 19 by hmrspaul
RMweb Gold simon b Posted February 19 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 19 Thanks, that explains it then! I was confused as I couldn't see a join in those pictures so thought it was one long body.
roythebus1
It would never fit on a lorry of that era!
