DC Kits Mk2 DBSO

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time since I posted a thread, but it might encourage me to get this finished!

As I missed the boat back when Bachmann released the Scotrail DBSO coach (and I'm not willing to pay the 2nd hand prices!), I managed to get a hold of this DC kits DBSO. It's obviously not as fine and modern as the Bachmann offering, but it should do the trick. I've made a start, having sprayed the body with primer and opening up holes for the lights/trying to tidy some of the rougher parts of the resin body.

There is no interior included so I picked up a spare interior from the Bachmann spares site, however it's taking a bit of butchery to fit it in nicely.

This is my first experience of a resin railway kit so we'll see how it turns out!

Before the Bachmann model was produced, three of the DBSOs on Aberdeen Kirkhill were DC Kits ones. We certainly liked the model which scrubs up pretty well.

Another modification made to the end - there was no detail for the horns so I drilled this section out and made a couple of horns from drilled out stretched sprue. Just need to get some mesh to go over them.

A bit more progress, this time on one of the bogies. A NEM pocket from West Hill Wagon Works was used (although I think I might need to source a longer one) and the wheels are Bachmann spares. I did have to widen the bogies slightly to accommodate the wheels with strips of plasticard.

Rather than have just flat blank ends, I tried to recreate the construction of the ends of the bogies with plasticard based on a Hornby Mk2 bogie. Not sure how accurate it is, but it looks more interesting!

That body looks very Airfixy.

Is it a conversion pack, or a resin copy?

It's a full resin body kit, I'm assuming DC Kits likely made the conversion with an original Airfix coach and cast the resin mould using that!

Interesting, you may be able to use the Airfix laserglaze then.

100% Airfix based, door handles, the lines above the sides.

The kit itself actually did come with some glazing, I haven't tested it yet but it certainly looks quite clear. Good to know the laserglaze kit may be a backup/upgrade however!
