jamieP
Hi there, I have had trouble fitting a normal Hornby chip into my new class 31 as there ant much room, does anyone know of any better chip that i can use instead? Cheers Jamie
34theletterbetweenB&D
Not much room? It's like an aircraft hangar in there! Look at Hornby's diagram http://static.Hornby.com/files/ss-276d-247.pdf The PCB (part 5 on the diagram) has a large void underneath it pretty much where the pointer for '5' is directed, above the gear tower. That will accomodate a Lenz Gold without the slightest problem, and that is a fairly chunky decoder by current standards. Test the chassis with the decoder plugged in but loose to check all is well, take out the PCB screws, slightly raise the board and use a double sided sticky pad to attach the decoder, return PCB and screw down, tidy harness up, job done. Road Stone
I've a Hornby chip in my class 31 and it gives fantastic running qualities right from off. Very happy with it. Good luck. Cheers, Jerry
