Hi all

Been away in Scotland the last week so only a little work has been done. I have now finished the construction of the main bridge with it now being ready for painting and fitting onto the layout. Hope to paint it in the next few days and will add a few rust spots to it. I have also cast the small square turrets roofs for the distrillery last night and these will be the next items to fit to the main building. The wiring has also been completed on the last two boards and all needs to be wired to the control panel when it is completed. (awaiting the top panel plastic )

Hi All

Well I have not done much in the last couple of weeks due to a few problems at home. I have started last night doing the plastering on some of the scenery along the river side. At present it is not in a very good position to take some shots but I hope by tomorrow it will be and some shots will be taken and posted.

I am thinking of placing a small salmon jump under are near the middle bridge so I am looking for some shots of these. Also does anyone know if any manufactures do a model of salmon (4mm scale) jumping or its it going to be another item to make and cast.

Don’t forget if you are in the area tomorrow will be having a general open day at the unit in Nantlle.

Cheers

Hi All

Well I have managed to do a little work of the last few days. The bridge has now been painted and the shots show it with the easy rust painted on. For the best results it will need a further few hours before all the rust to come through. A little bit of touching up and some weathering and it should be ready for final insertion into the layout.

Also some of the rock formations have been started but it is a little to hot to complete it all with the plaster cracking due to the heat before it has really set.

Any way below are a few shots.

Cheers

Peter

The skew bridge makes for a great foreground attention grabber; especially as it's a work of art. Great modelling with the railings and the stonework on the abutments.

Maybe it's not a problem with the cracking plaster. It looks like you're mixing the base colour with the plaster so when it does crack it won't show white and could appear like a very natural feature in the rock?

Cheers

Hi Andy

Many thanks for your comments. The plaster I use for general scenery is roughing or under coat plaster which has a natural colour of a dark pink light brown but in some cases I do add a base colour of Brunt Sienna so that if is knocked etc the dark colour shows through. I think that the cracking was due to the intense heat it was well into the 80's.:O

anyway thanks for your comments. Watch out for more.

Hi All

Here are a few more shots of the state of play with the plastering todate. On the building front nearly all the drawings have now been completed for all the buildings but the main draw back has been that I have run out of formboard . This has been retified and hopefully a 8ft x 4ft 3mm sheet should be here tomorrow. Some of the small items are to be cast in resin and some of the moulds have been made ready to start casting in the next few days.

Will keep up the information.

Cheers

Peter

Hi All

Well little has been done in the last week due to me having to do some work for cash. Should have been cutting down some 60ft tall trees today but too windy :crazy_mini:so instead I have sprayed some of the track. Still one end to complete but had to stop because I have just found out that the over spray has gone on to the walls. Now all pretty with brown spots on them. Wendy is at work so if you don’t hear from me again it’s been nice knowing you all :scare:

A little more of the plastering has also been completed.

Cheers

Peter

Wonder if I can paint the walls in the next two hours?

Hi All

Have been doing some work today on the layout constructing the engine shed. Having sited the shed remembered that I had not fitted in the engine pit so an hours work later and we now have a pit.:happy_mini: The engine shed is based on a couple I have seen in books as well as one based down at Moors Water in Cornwall i.e. the water tank at the side. At present it is only the frame work made from foam board and will be covered tonight are tomorrow with an embossed stone plastic. In the mean time have started on the Ratio signal kits LNER type. Cutting them out.

I have not finished the spraying of the track yet. My new airbrush broke; the small spray nozzle thread went. I phoned up Everything Airbrush and they sent by return post a complete new spray gun and a replacement nozzle in case I could repair it all free of charge.:clapping_mini: It’s nice to know that there are still some people offering a good service to their customers. Well done to them I can highly recommend them. Ant way I can now finish the spraying in the next few days.

Cheers

Hi All

Well over the last few days have started work on the over bridge at the end of the station and the approach to the bridge at the back of the station. This is made from foamboard and covered with embossed plastic. I have still to make the main girders.

The station buildings I have cheated somewhat in that I am using Bachmann buildings but they will be modified with roof lights on the flat toilet roof and along the front of the building will be a awning. Also some of the main platforms have also been started.

The engine shed has now aquired it's water tank and the outside piping.:smile_mini:

Cheers

Hi All

Well I have spent the last few evenings working on Gillie bridge which spans the river and the railway at the back of the distillery. It is also known locally as ‘Flora’s Leap or Flora’s Bridge’.

This is due to an old legend that is told in the area that happened a hundred years or more ago. There was a wee lassie called Flora and her betrothed Angus :heart_mini:. Flora just wanted to court Angus but he had a wee trait and that was fishing for the noble Scottish fish the salmon, and in particular the Big One as it was known. Flora one day gave Angus the ultimatum either it was her or the Big One. Angus, feeling that Flora would always be there no matter what, went off fishing again hoping to catch his goal. Flora in a fit of depression went and jumped off the bridge of Gillie into the raging torrents of the river below and was never seen again. Poor Angus lost Flora but he also lost the Big One and to make matters worst it was lost to a Tourist. After that the Bridge of Gillie was also known as Flora’s Leap.

It sounds good anyway!!!

Hi All

Well I have been little bit tied up over the last week. but I have managed to build the second engine shed for the distillery together with its water tank. This has been made from an old Hornby tank wagon which was nearly as old as me and has been in the scrap box. The base is again foam board laid over with plastic card.

The engine shed has been built in the same style as the main buildings with the smoke vents matching those on the distillery roofs. Still needs some work on it but it should be finished tonight.

Work has started on the goods shed and it should be complete later today so will post some shots later.

Cheers

Peter

Hi All

As promised here are a few shots of the main engine shed as it stands today together with a few shots of the goods shed . hope you enjoy them.

the construction is the same as all the other models ie. foam board construction covered with double sided tape and then slaters embossed plastic place on, Windows are from Grandt Line USA and Dornaplus.

Yes the cuttering on the engine shed is made to be broken. It will have a green stain down the wall when painted and two men standing looking at it waundering how much it will coast to repair?

Still some work to finnish on both models before painting and placing on the layout.

Thanks Lee for your comments.

Cheers

Some great buildings you have made Peter, a quick question have you run a loco on the layout yet or still waiting for that time?

Colin

Hi Colin

Yes we have run a loco on the layout but there is still some of the electrics to finish mainly the connecting up of the micro switches on the points and the final layout diagram on the control panel with the stud contacts. RS ltd have stopped doing the small Pan Head srcews that I use after I have turned the slot down so I am still to make those from another source So just at this moment in time the loco's stop on the points etc. This should be completed in the next two weeks when we move it down to the unit for the final fitting out.

Cheers

Hi All

Its been a little hectic around here over the last week with other projects having to take preference to model railways, any way I am now back on the layout and with the one exception all the plastering is now complete and most of it has also been painted ready for the flocking to commence in the next few days.

The control panel has also been completed but still have to connect up the micro switches on the points. May do it this weekend when paul is down.

Most of themain builds are now complete and just need painting which has started but ran out of roofing material for the Distillery but this has now arrivedand is under way. There is just the signal box and workshop for the Distillery to make.

The bad news is that I was outside eith the layout on Sunday in the that funny thing called SUN and it has lifted the ptatform covering so this has to be redone.

Well thats about it, Keep the comments coming, I love to know what you all think of it.

Cheers

Peter
