RMweb Gold Richard_A Posted September 7, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2010 hello is there a "spreadable" fillers available/suitable for model making? i use milliput and i think is a great product but when im trying to use it thinly over say a loco bodyside to hide my bad workmanship, I find I use too much and get thick areas when im wanting a relativley uniform thickness to aid sanding. I do manipulate it with water as im using it to help spread it out, but i keep thinking about car bodywork/wood fillers which are spreadable but im not sure if they would attack plastic
jukebox
You could try a bottle of Mr Surfacer. Info on how to use it here: http://www.swannysmo...m/Surfacer.html Possible UK supplier here: http://www.relishmod...rfacer-500.html (but it is argueably almost as easy to) Buy direct from Japan here: http://www.hlj.com/h...surfacer&Dis=-2 Cheers Jukebox

JeremyC
I've used both 'Plastic Padding' and 'Isopon' two part car body fillers on both metal and plastic models with no problems and they're much quicker setting than Miliput. A lot of plastic modellers seem to use 'Squadron Greenstuff', which is a one part filler, personally I find it sets too quickly. Jeremy

Theakerr
I use Canadian Tire Glazing Spot Putty. No problems with plastic, pretty fine particle size and fairly easy to work
Karhedron
I use Halfords car body filler. Comes in a tube like toothpaste and can be spread quite thinly. I recently used it to fill in some fine blemishes in a resin N gauge loco body and it needed only modest sanding afterwards to give a good smooth finish.
