sde
Hi all, Been gone for awhile. Lost a wife to a motor vehicle collision and have remarried, I am getting back into my trains again. The first job is to finish off the 0-4-0 I started back in 2009 RMweb Archive page 6. I have started on the cab and have been working to get everything square, not an easy kit to get together. Will post more photos as I get further on with the build.
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted September 24, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2010 what motor will you be using? I have an L&Y Pug that I bought of classifieds that has a Triang X04 motor in it. Will follow your biuld with interest as I intend stripping and rebuilding mine over the winter
sde
Hi Redgatemodels, The kit comes with slaters own Motor and Gearbox. Its a nice unit, look up the old RMweb archives under kitbuilding page 6 I think. I posted a photo of what you get in the box showing everything, you can see the motor-Gearbox they had in the kit. cheers sde
sde
Hi all, The kit is coming along even with all the trouble I have had with it. Will be doing the hand rails next, then onto the rest of the white metal parts.
sde
Hi all, Have added some photos of my build from the old forums and a couple of new photos. I hope to start painting in the next week.
dajt
Nice build. Very tidy. I'm building a Slaters 0-6-0 MW and it seems to be a lot of work for a little loco, but it is the first kit I've built so I have nothing to compare it to. I like the way you mark the handrail height on the tank, I hadn't thought of that. Regards, David.
sde
Thanks for that David, Its my 4th kit build but my first slater's. It looks like slater's kits are a lot of work, but they do look nice when they are finnished. Don't give up on yours keep at it, Regards Shane
RMweb Premium Kris Posted October 4, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2010 Like the cunning way of marking a straight line. I'll have to remember that one.
sde
Hi all, Been very busy with work so it was only the last 2 days that I have been able to do some more on it. The good news is all of the hard stuff is done now! Only the detail parts left to do, have had it running to bed in the gears and rods. In about a week I hope to start the painting of the uper body. sde
Hi all, Just posting a photo. Have etched under-coat the pug, need to clean up any bad spots then a light coat of filler prime followed by top colour coat.
Scale7JB
Looking great, but do you really need to use a filler primer? You'll lose all that lovely detail around the smokebox, whistle, buffer housings, tank filler cap etc.. I would paint it as is... but that's only a personal opinion of course.. JB. sde
Hi, JB the filler primer I am going to use is a very fine one put out by Tamiya. the pug looks good in the photo but I do need to rub back some spots and do some more sanding. You do not put it on thick just a light dusting. I think they rate it as a 1000 fine (same as wet and dry sanding paper)
RMweb Premium Kris Posted October 23, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 23, 2010 You have turned that into a fantastic looking loco SDE, could almost be in works photographic grey.
dajt
Nicely done. Are you going to paint it while it is all together like that? I had to take the MW K class apart because the tank and boiler are different colours. Regards, David.
sde
Hi David, I made sure that It will come apart. It makes life better when you can get paint into all the hard to see places, even if it is going to be black all over. I am holding off on the painting untill I get my Hunslet 0-6-0DM done as it will also be black. (will paint both at same time) regards Shane
