Hi there,

I was thinking of getting one of these preferably in yeoman colours but are they much kop ?

I know Hornby put a different motor in to the old lima banger but will it pull the rice skin off a pudding ?

Does anyone know which one has the wrong body ?

Any thoughts appreciated

The Hornby model in Yeoman has the wrong body and in ARC was the wrong colour...

The Lima model is a good starting point for detailing (have a look at Pugsley's awesome model for some inspiration!) they can also be picked up pretty cheaply these days.

Powerwise both are rather average, though can be dramatically improved by fitting to a Bachmann 66 chassis fitted with 59 sideframes and underframe tanks etc

My sole running Lima model is (or at least was) a very very good runner, if very noisy, however I've never tested it hauling a load so no idea how long a train it will haul.

I have 2 (1 Yeoman and 1 Hanson) which are in the process of getting a Bachmann chassis and some etched bits,

The one with the wrong style of body is the first release in the newer Foster Yeoman colours, 59005 I think.

The 66 chassis conversion is a reasonable amount of effort, but the reward is worth it. One bonus is that you don't need to do anything to the bodyshell that would entail a respray. The story of my conversion is here:

I went a bit OTT with mine, but you could end up with a nice looking model without going as far I did.

Rob,

I have a Yeoman Lima 59 and as long as you put enough weight in it it will quite happily pull a decent load.

Mine has been known to pull a rake of 30+ 4 wheel Yeoman Stone hoppers on Highbricge Road without too much trouble.

I did consider buying the newer Hornby effort, but I did pick up the issues about the body and the fact that the Hornby motor is in fact worse than the Lima one for pulling power, but is smoother than the Lima one.

As long as the lima mechanism is well looked after after the wheels cleaned properly, then it shouldn't give too much trouble.

Regards

Neal.

Funnily enough I was thinknig of this option whislt coming back from Ruislip today and seeing 59203 awaiting to reverse out of Northolt Binlnier terminal on the 0A56 to Acton Yard! Even though they still are GMs I prefer 59s to 66s, but after seeing Hattons Website charging ??64 for the Limby 59201 model ( ouch!)im having a slight rethink ...
