For the crimson, *none* of the colours I have here match that shade, my reds are redder, my crimsons are darker. Perhaps revell 37 topped with a satin varnish. At the risk of spending a significant amount of money on paints, and the bigger problems of spending your time painting, varnishing, and assessing the results, and finding somewhere to store a myriad of tinlets and jars, you could get a selection of paints from the main maufacturers and paint some test strips to decide which ones work for you, and which don't. I did that myself, but if you aren't distracted by ideas such as "scale colour" it's perfectly ok to go with the shades that the paint manufacturers claim are correct ĸen

I would say the Cream is the 50s-60s shade. I've had a look at the Airfix / Humbrol colour chart, and their BR Maroon looks too dark, while the EWS Maroon looks a closer match ? Or try Precision paints. I seem to remember, their BR Crimson was/is quite dark. Then, again, there's Howes Railmatch range. Regards
big_daddy_ray
Thanks for the shouts back people, I think I'll go with the railmatch I've used a few of their products and have found them to be very good (acrylics), so it'll be BR Maroon(coaches, class52) and the 50-early 60's BR Cream, I'll post with the results but bare with me as I might need to change the colours about, Many thanks as ever
