Cl 121/122 Bubble Car

Evening all

I'm looking at the next modelling project. It's only been lurking in the cupboard for erm 25 years. It's an old Lima 117 power car with the Craftsman end to turn into a 121 bubble car. Unit is all stripped down. Power will be courtesy of a High Level Lowrider I built a while back but never used. My question is this: does anybody do an etch of the door handrails? I've read the old MRJ article and notice PC used to do a fret. Is this still available or does anyone else do something similar?

DC Kits do detailing frets for their DMU kits, there won't be one specific for the Bubble Car but they should contain what you're looking for.

 

I'm sure Charlie Petty would be only too pleased to sell you one...

Hi Andrew, MJT Scale Components (via Dart Castings) make the following etch for BR Carriages:-

 

2930: BR Door Handles (£1.40)

 

This contains ' T ' door handles, hinges, etc, so may contain what you're looking for.

 

It's interesting that you have the Cl 121 kit from 25 years ago, because I still have the Craftsman kit of similar age to convert a LIMA 117 to a Cl 128 DPU. I bought the unpowered 117 trailer and got as far as smoothing the LIMA bodysides and shaping the etched overlays. My plan was then to use a Mashima DS10 centrally mounted with flywheels to drive the inner axles of each bogie via cardan shafts and universal joints similar to the real thing. I had all the bits apart from the gearboxes, but that's as far as I got. Work, socialising, a mortgage, marriage and children meant that railway modelling was put on hold. Maybe sometime in the future I'll treat myself to a proper Bill Bedford chassis kit and complete it. Good luck with yours.
