Isambard Kingdom Brunel
I am fitting Bill Bedford Sprung W Irons. How are these painted? I am modelling GWR Wagons so was going to paint them grey, but am worried that it will affect the springy bit? Would just metal blacking them look OK? RMweb Gold Brinkly Posted January 29, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 29, 2011 Terry, If it was me I would remove the sprung part, prime and paint and then put the spring back. Then you can keep it clean. Metal primer would be fine, sprayed on. Then paint either with an airbrush or hand painted depending on whether you are a brush man or not. Regards, Nick. craigwelsh
Blacken the back and the spring unit and keep the grey paint to the front. I tend to stick four squares of masking tape on the back of the blackened w-irons when spraying mine.
